Once it had seemed the objects mattered
By Anne-Claude Cotty
Stonington, Maine: Anne-Claude Cotty, 2013. One-of-a-Kind.

2.5 x 5 x .25" pendant. Materials: brass, copper, antique button, toned photograms, Japanese papers, and silk. Miniature accordion map fold book attached to back of pendant. Signed and dated by the artist.

Anne-Claude Cotty: "The challenge I have set for myself in my current work is to balance and bind fragments of metal, photographs, and poetic texts into books. The assemblages are of formed and found scraps of copper, brass, and silver. The photographs are the result of light passing through objects onto paper (photograms) or through a hole onto paper in a box (pinhole images), some hand-colored, some toned with experimental processes. The spare lines of text are to support open, unfixed readings of the photographs."

Lullaby
By Anne-Claude Cotty
Stonington, Maine: Anne-Claude Cotty, 2012. One-of-a-Kind.

1.75 x 2.5 x .375" pendant with book. Pinhole images (silver gelatin prints). Materials: Japanese papers, silk, silver, copper. Miniature accordion book attached to back of pendant. Signed and dated by the artist.

Lullaby is wearable art consisting of a miniature book attached to a metal pendant. The mixed metal pendant features a toned pinhole image of a harbor. Text and photography by Anne-Claude Cotty. Reminiscent of the time when books were worn around the neck.

Text: "Weary warrior, the sea returns, takes shelter among immutable piers. While it rocks itself to sleep, my questions rise and fall unanswered."

Anne-Claude Cotty: "My cameras are ordinary cardboard boxes that have, in most cases, multiple apertures. What they 'see,' however, is anything but ordinary: they can animate simple subjects – lobster traps, buoys, fishing piers down the street from my studio, or a series of 'elements on snow' – and seem to create form and movement. They can take the viewer beyond object or landscape to a place of poetry and metaphorical process."
