The Ink Shop Printmaking Center: "Artist Beth Sutherland, printer Chris Dunnett, and art historian Paul Kaplan [Sutherland's husband] have collaborated on a limited edition, hand-printed and hand-bound book, Umpteen Dumpsters. Sutherland, a painter and printmaker, drew the nineteen images in the book from life at locations urban, suburban and rural, ranging from Chelsea to the coast of Maine, and as far afield as Germany and Switzerland. The resulting woodcuts are a commentary on the ubiquity of dumpsters and their odd visual relationship with surrounding structures and landscapes. Kaplan's essay situates the woodcuts in the context of the artist's practice, and reflects on the function, meaning, and sensory experience of the dumpster. Umpteen Dumpsters pits the refined execution of its images and printed text against the rough nature of the objects it celebrates.

"Beth Sutherland has received numerous fellowships for her work including a Studio Immersion Program fellowship at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, a Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation Space Program Fellowship, and a NYFA artist's fellowship in painting.

"Paul Kaplan is Professor of Renaissance Art History at Purchase College, SUNY.

"Chris Dunnett just completed a two-year stint as shop manager at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, in NYC."
