Rae Trujillo: " A book is a familiar object. Usually, you know what to expect when you take a book into your hands, whether it is a novel, reference or even a picture book. But when you pick up an Artist’s Book, magic happens. You are transported to a different world. An Artist’s Book reveals its secrets in unexpected ways, as a shared experience between the Artist and the Viewer".

Berlin Bicycles
By Rae Trujillo
Pleasant Hill, California: rae's of sun, 2016. Edition of 12.

4.25 x 4.75";10 pages. Exposed binding sewn over leather strips. The paper is Mohawk Superfine that has been covered with poster material removed from building/fences while the artist was in Berlin. The poster bits are machine sewn to the page. Design and photographs by Rae Trujillo. Signed and numbered by the artist.

Rae Trujillo: "I fell in love with Berlin on a recent trip. I was struck with how authentic it is, and the celebration of street art everywhere. I wanted to capture the gritty feel of the city. Abandoned bicycles appeared to be art installations, so I photographed them. After an evening rain, we went out for a walk and a mass of posters were separating themselves from the walls. At my encouragement, my husband removed a 2" thick swath, which I packed up and took home. Now I was ready to remember Berlin."

The reverse side of the accordion has silhouettes machine stitched over a collage of old accounting ledgers painted white. Each gossip's name is rubber stamped (lest we can't figure it out) by image.

Rae Trujillo: "I commute more or less an hour each way to work. During that time I dream of books. I collect words as I drive, from the radio, reading bumper stickers, truck signage and store fronts. From this collection my characters began to come to life. Stories begin to emerge and connections take shape. It makes the drive bearable."

A Rainbow of Dreams
or
Dressed to Drink

By Rae Trujillo
Pleasant Hill, California: rae's of sun, 2010. Edition of 10.

4 x 5.5"; 8 pages. Page stitching with sewing machine. Materials: tea-dyed index cards, lace, glitter, alternative photography. Text typed with manual typewriter. Sewn lace binding. Bound with brocade and lace materials over two-ply museum boards.

Cocktail recipes accompanied by images of color coordinated cocktail dresses.

Rae Trujillo: "The dresses in the photo's are Quinceanera dresses. A girl will wear one of these confections of dreamy material for her fifteenth birthday in parts of Latin America. This birthday is celebrated differently from any other birthday, it is like a coming out celebration, going from childhood to womanhood. When I saw the dresses the first time I was reminded of wedding dresses and the similarity of the celebration. It seems some folks are more concerned with planning the event while other folks are interested in the drinking and party. Two different interests, one big party."
